Archaeological sites and ancient remains this atlas records as belonging to East or Southeast Asia: Angkor Thom in Cambodia, the Terracotta Army and the Guyaju Caves in China, and the Dazaifu Gakkoin in Japan. This subcategory's own report proposed no East Asia group and named only one Southeast Asian member on its own, so the two are combined here into one group rather than leaving four real members split across an empty category and a category of one. Belongs here: any ancient site this subcategory records as belonging to East or Southeast Asia. Does not belong here: a site belonging to South Asia, gathered under this subcategory's own Archaeological Sites of South Asia group instead.

In Japanese history, the Jōmon period (Japanese: 縄文 時代, Hepburn: Jōmon jidai) is the time between c. 14,000 and 300 BC, during which Japan was inhabited by the Jōmon people, a diverse hunter-gatherer and early agriculturalist population united by a common culture, which reached a considerable degree of sedentism and cultural complexity.
