Flowerdew Hundred Plantation was an early Virginia settlement dating to 1618-19, when Governor Sir George Yeardley patented 1,000 acres on the south side of the James River, naming it after his wife's father Anthony Flowerdew. With a population of about 30, the settlement produced tobacco, corn, fish and livestock, and Yeardley paid to build the first windmill in British America there. The site survives today as an archaeological site.
