Davenport House (New Rochelle, New York)

Residential Buildings

The Davenport House, also known as Sans-Souci, is a historic residence at 157 Davenport Road in New Rochelle, New York, on land once known as Davenport Neck, with views of Long Island Sound. Built in 1859 to an original design by the architect Alexander Jackson Davis in the Gothic Revival style, the house was enlarged over time with additions by Frederick H. The resulting house spans about 11,216 square feet and contains 39 rooms, and is described as a rare assemblage of mid nineteenth through early twentieth century American residential design. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated on the New York State Register of Historic Places, both in 1980, under National Register reference number 80002791.
