Claridge's is a hotel on Brook Street in the Mayfair district of London, tracing its origins to Mivart's Hotel, established in 1812 and acquired in 1854 by William and Marianne Claridge, who combined it with an adjoining building under the Claridge's name. The hotel in its current form was rebuilt in 1898 to a design by the architect C. W. Stephens, with interiors by Ernest George, in a red brick building with red Mansfield stone dressings, slate roofing and cast iron balconies, and it is a Grade II listed building. Claridge's became known for hosting royalty and heads of state, including several exiled European monarchs and the Yugoslav government in exile during the Second World War. The hotel's foyer was restored by the designer Thierry Despont in 1996, and a further renovation between 2016 and 2021 added a five-story underground extension while preserving the historic public rooms.
