Długosz House (Wiślica)

Religious and Sacred Buildings

The Długosz House is a fifteenth-century Gothic residence in Wiślica, Poland, built in 1460 of brick, ashlar and timber to house clergy attached to the town's collegiate church. It was commissioned by the historian and priest Jan Długosz, one of several similar clergy houses he sponsored across the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and its construction required demolishing older buildings on the site. According to historian Michał Bobrzyński, the local clergy considered the new residence magnificent, and its interior originally carried ornamental paintings, including a depiction of Długosz himself. Also known as the Vicars' House, the building today serves jointly as a regional museum and a clergy residence, and is a registered historic monument in Poland.
