Porta San Felice, Bologna

Fortifications and Military Architecture

Porta San Felice was the westernmost gate of Bologna's former outer medieval walls in Italy, first erected in the 13th century and rebuilt in 1334 with a machicolated tower and a drawbridge. It was restored in 1508 and again in 1805 during Napoleon's visit to the city, and once had a barracks and a tax collection house standing at its entrance, though the flanking walls were demolished in 1840.
