The John Kane House is a Colonial, Federal, and Greek Revival house on East Main Street in Pawling, New York, whose original kitchen wing dates to 1740 and which was expanded in the 1810s. Its early owner William Prendergast led the 1766 Dutchess County Anti-Rent War and was sentenced to death for treason before receiving a gubernatorial reprieve, while a later owner, the Loyalist John Kane, had the property confiscated so that George Washington could headquarter there when the Continental Army wintered in the area in September 1778. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the house is now a museum run by the Historical Society of Quaker Hill and Pawling with exhibits on local history, including the radio pioneer Lowell Thomas.
