Fortifications and Military Architecture

Buildings and complexes built primarily for defense: the castle, the fort and fortification works generally. Belongs here: any named structure whose primary original purpose was military defense or fortification, whatever its later use. Does not belong here: monuments commemorating a military event, grouped under monuments, towers and commemorative structures, since a monument is built to remember rather than to defend.
