The Royal Stables is the mews of the Danish monarchy at Christiansborg Palace on the island of Slotsholmen in Copenhagen, built between 1738 and 1745 by the architects Elias David Hausser and Nicolai Eigtved in the Baroque style. When it opened in 1746 the complex housed 87 riding horses and 165 carriage horses, and some of its buildings still carry marble pillars and other elaborate decoration from that period. Today around 20 horses remain stabled there, providing ceremonial transport for the Danish royal family at state events, and the complex also operates as a public museum of state coaches and carriages.
