The Fullerton Hotel Singapore occupies a Neoclassical building completed in 1928 at the mouth of the Singapore River, originally constructed as the colony's General Post Office and named for Robert Fullerton, the first Governor of the Straits Settlements. Designed with a monumental colonnade of Doric columns along its main facade, the building also housed the Singapore Exchange and the exclusive Singapore Club during the twentieth century, functioning as a hub of the colonial city's commercial and social life. After decades as a government office building, it was extensively restored and converted into a luxury hotel that opened in 2001, retaining its historic granite facade and barrel-vaulted lobby ceiling. The building was granted national monument status in Singapore in 2015 in recognition of its architectural and historical significance.
