The Pyramid of Pepi II was the tomb of King Pepi II of Egypt, located in southern Saqqara northwest of the Mastabat al Fir'aun, and it was the last full pyramid complex built in ancient Egypt. Long used as a stone quarry, it was first excavated by Gaston Maspero in 1881, and Gustave Jequier later studied its ruins in exhaustive detail, reconstructing the funerary complex and the texts on the walls of its burial chamber during excavation campaigns from 1932 to 1935. Investigations of the pyramid and its surroundings have continued since 1996.
