The Tallinn TV Tower is a 314-metre reinforced-concrete telecommunications tower near the Pirita suburb of Tallinn, Estonia, designed by David Baziladze and Juri Sinis and officially opened on July 11, 1980, in time to serve the sailing events of that year's Moscow Summer Olympics, held off the Estonian coast. It remains the tallest structure in Tallinn and weighs roughly 20,000 tonnes, carrying an observation deck with a restaurant and a 38-meter-diameter viewing floor near the 170-metre level. The tower closed for renovation for several years and reopened to the public on April 5, 2012, its interior updated while its original structure was preserved, and visible bullet holes from the failed Soviet coup attempt of 1991 remain on parts of the tower as a physical trace of Estonia's push for independence that year. It is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
