Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ atop Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, designed by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa in collaboration with the French sculptor Paul Landowski and dedicated on October 12, 1931. Built of reinforced concrete faced with soapstone tiles, the statue stands about 30 meters tall on an 8-meter pedestal, with its outstretched arms spanning roughly 28 meters, and overlooks the city from a summit reached by cog railway. It was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a 2007 public poll, and UNESCO included the statue within the Rio de Janeiro cultural landscape inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2012.
