Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Most)

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a late Gothic church in Most, in the Usti nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. Construction began in 1517, and the building was rebuilt and restored over the following centuries. When Most' historic center faced destruction from expanding lignite mining in the 1960s and 1970s, the church was preserved by relocation rather than demolition: between September and October 1975 the entire 12,700 ton structure was moved 841.1 meters to a new site on specially engineered hydraulic transporters, earning recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records as the heaviest building ever moved on wheels. Restoration continued after the move, and the church was reconsecrated in 1993.
