Kiruna Church

Religious and Sacred Buildings

Kiruna Church, known in Swedish as Kiruna kyrka, is a church building in Kiruna, in northern Sweden, and counts among the largest wooden buildings in the country. It was built between 1909 and 1912 to designs by the architect Gustaf Wickman. The exterior follows a Gothic Revival style, while the altar is in Art Nouveau, so the building combines two periods of design in one interior and exterior. In August 2025 the whole church was moved over two days a distance of five kilometres to the east, because of ground subsidence caused by the Kiruna mine, which makes it a notable case of relocating a large timber building intact.
