Religious and Sacred Buildings

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Church of the Resurrection, is a fourth century church in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It is simultaneously the seat of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Catholic Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, and it is regarded as the holiest site in Christianity. It has been an important pilgrimage destination for Christians since the fourth century.

The original fourth-century church and rotunda built under Constantine were destroyed in 1009 and rebuilt under Byzantine sponsorship by 1048; the crusaders captured the site in 1099 and made further additions afterward, so 1048 marks the Byzantine reconstruction rather than the very first or the very last building campaign.

Has Building Type

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
