Archiepiscopal Palace, Rouen

Religious and Sacred Buildings

The Archiepiscopal Palace of Rouen, on rue des Bonnetiers in Rouen, Normandy, France, is the official residence of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Rouen and Primate of Normandy, and is the only archiepiscopal palace in France still attached to its cathedral while keeping its original function. Built across the Middle Ages in Gothic and Renaissance styles, it was substantially rebuilt under Archbishop William of Estouteville by 1464 and further expanded under Georges d Amboise between 1495 and 1507. It was the site of Joan of Arc final trial, which ended in her death sentence on April 29, 1431, and of her rehabilitation trial in 1456. The palace was first classified a monument historique in 1862, with further protections added in 1909, 1992 and 1995. Has Building Type

Palace, Concepts

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
