Cottages and Small Houses

A modest, small-scale dwelling, most often described as a cottage, bungalow or cabin, built as an ordinary or vacation home rather than as a grand residence, an architect's deliberate design statement, or a museum-operated historic property. This group gathers small houses whose own recorded description identifies them plainly this way, distinguishing them from the larger and more architecturally or historically significant residence types gathered in the other groups under this subcategory, even where a particular cottage happens to be old enough to carry its own historic designation or listing.
