Christopher Columbus House

The Christopher Columbus House in Genoa, Italy is an early 18th-century reconstruction of the house in which Christopher Columbus is said to have grown up, standing just outside the city's 14th-century walls. Documentary evidence places Columbus living on the site from about 1455 to 1470, but the original structure was likely destroyed in the French bombardment of Genoa in 1684. The rebuilt house originally stood five storeys tall but was reduced to two storeys around 1900 when neighboring buildings were cleared for the construction of Via XX Settembre, and it is now run as a museum by the Porta Soprana cultural association.
