The Dower House is a dower house on Purdown hill above the M32 motorway in Bristol, England, painted yellow and long recognized as one of the city's landmarks. It was originally built in 1553 by Sir Richard Berkeley and rebuilt around 1760 by Norborne Berkeley, 4th Baron Botetourt, later serving as a dower house for the Dukes of Beaufort of nearby Badminton House. The house and its terrace, orangery and gate are listed, the house itself Grade II star and the remaining features Grade II. From 1909 to 1986 the property was part of Stoke Park Hospital, then housed University of the West of England lectures, before being converted into thirteen residential apartments in 2004, with the surrounding grounds kept as public open space by Bristol City Council as the Stoke Park Estate.
