De Vargas Street House

The De Vargas Street House, often called the Oldest House, is a historic adobe dwelling at 215 East De Vargas Street in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Its exact construction date is unknown, but the bulk of the building is believed to date from the Spanish colonial period after 1610, and one archaeological study found sections of its walls to be characteristic of earlier Pueblo construction. The two-story adobe structure has an original first floor and a second floor reconstructed in the 1920s, along with rooms built in the Spanish colonial style with corner fireplaces. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties in 1968 as a contributing property of the Barrio De Analco Historic District, and today it is restored and open to visitors as a tourist attraction.
