Horseshoe Plantation is an approximately 11,000 acre estate in northern Leon County, Florida, established around 1840 by Dr. Edward Bradford, a planter from Enfield, North Carolina, as a cotton growing plantation worked by enslaved labor. In 1901 the Philadelphia businessman Clement A. Griscom bought the original parcel and expanded it through further purchases in 1902 and 1903 to more than 10,000 acres, developing it as a winter estate with Jersey cattle and a pecan grove. After Griscom died in 1916 the property was divided among his heirs, with his son Lloyd C. Griscom creating the 4,000 acre Luna Plantation, his daughter Frances C. Griscom establishing the 7,000 acre Water Oak Plantation, and the eastern portion sold to George F. Baker Jr. of New York. The property is now owned and maintained by Frederic C. Hamilton.
