North Bend Plantation is a Greek Revival house and estate on the north bank of the James River in Charles City County, Virginia, on land first inhabited by the Weanoc people. Its original section was built in 1819 by John Minge, and Thomas Hamlin Willcox doubled its size in 1853, bringing the house to its present form by 1855, with details recalling the work of the architect Asher Benjamin. During the Civil War, in 1864, the plantation served as a headquarters for roughly 30,000 Union Army troops under Major General Philip Sheridan as they prepared to cross the James on a pontoon bridge, and the property has belonged to the Copland family since 1916. North Bend was added to the Virginia Landmarks Register in 1987 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, and its grounds remain open to visitors with guided house tours by appointment.
