Travellers Rest (Nashville, Tennessee)

Residential Buildings

Travellers Rest is a former plantation house in the Oak Hill area of Nashville, Tennessee, built in 1799 by politician and judge John Overton, a close friend and advisor of Andrew Jackson. Originally called Golgotha after prehistoric skulls unearthed during construction of the cellar, it was renamed Travellers Rest in the early nineteenth century to reflect the rest Overton found there after his circuit-court travels, and it was expanded in 1812, after 1820 and again in 1887. Saved from demolition and restored as a museum in 1954, it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1969 and now operates as the Travellers Rest Plantation and Museum.

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
