Fotheringay is a historic plantation home near Elliston in Montgomery County, Virginia, built about 1796 as a three bay brick dwelling and later expanded to a full five bays in the 1950s; it is a two story, hipped roof house with a deep two story rear ell and a projecting two level portico. It was built by enslaved laborers using bricks fired on site for its first owner, Col. George Hancock, and its next owner was the lawyer, congressman and Confederate officer Henry Edmundson.
