Aguinaldo Shrine

Monuments Towers and Commemorative Structures

The Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine, also called the Cavite El Viejo Shrine, is a national shrine in Kawit, Cavite, in the Philippines. It is the house where the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain was proclaimed on 12 June 1898, the event now commemorated by the national holiday Araw ng Kalayaan, or Independence Day. Each 12 June the Philippine flag is raised at the site by top government officials as part of that commemoration. The building is a house that now serves as a museum. Its source article records an American-era Filipino colonial design in the Bahay na Bato tradition and a construction start in 1845, and it lists Emilio Aguinaldo as architect.
