Individually named historic houses in this atlas's Residential Buildings subcategory that do not fit any of the subcategory's other subtype groups: not a villa, manor or country house, farmstead or homestead, cottage or small house, rowhouse, apartment building, historic district of multiple buildings, vernacular dwelling of a named traditional culture, or, per its own description, a house whose primary significance to this atlas is as an individually authored architectural statement by a named modern-movement architect (that narrower case is Architecturally Significant Houses). Most of what remains, once those subtypes are set aside, is the plain historic house: a named residence significant chiefly for its age, a former owner's biography, or a landmark designation such as the United States National Register of Historic Places or a comparable listing abroad, rather than for any of those other more specific reasons. Belongs here: any such individually named house. Does not belong here: a member that genuinely fits one of this subcategory's other eight groups instead, each of which is the more specific and more useful placement when it applies.
