Ingleside Plantation

Ingleside Plantation was a 2,620-acre forced-labor farm in extreme northeastern Leon County, Florida, bounded on the east by the shores of Lake Miccosukee. It was acquired by Joel C. Blake, who enslaved 116 people to grow cotton on the property; an 1860 agricultural census recorded 1,500 improved acres, 181 bales of cotton produced that year and a plantation value of 25,000 dollars. Blake died in 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg, after which the plantation became known as Ring Oak Plantation, a private hunting estate co-owned by David Sinton Ingalls and Robert Livingston Ireland Jr. The former plantation lands now correspond to the area around County Road 59, also called Veterans Memorial Drive, and the modern Cypress Landing Road, Leland Circle and Indigo Lane.
