Greenfield (Fincastle, Virginia)

Greenfield, also known as the Col. William Preston Plantation, the Preston House, and the Botetourt Center at Greenfield, is a historic plantation site at Fincastle in Botetourt County, Virginia. It was established by the surveyor, militia officer and burgess William Preston, who began working the land with enslaved labor from 1759, and it grew into one of Botetourt County's largest plantations, exceeding 1,200 acres by the 1770s, before Preston moved his family to another plantation, Smithfield, in 1774 and left Greenfield to a series of overseers.
