Magnolia Mound Plantation House

Residential Buildings

Magnolia Mound Plantation House is a French Creole plantation house about a mile south of downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, begun as a cottage in 1786 by James Hillin and enlarged near the Mississippi River by 1791. Its French Colonial architecture, shaped by early French and West Indian settlers, features a large hip roof covering the rooms and galleries and double-hung windows added in the early nineteenth century, alongside outbuildings that include a reconstructed open-hearth kitchen, an overseer's house, a pigeonnier and a slave cabin from around 1830. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, it is owned by the city of Baton Rouge and operated as a museum interpreting plantation life.

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
