Vernacular and Traditional Dwellings

A dwelling type that developed within a specific culture, climate and locally available building material tradition, built and repeated across many households to a shared traditional form rather than commissioned from an individual architect as a singular design statement. This group gathers residential buildings whose own recorded type identifies them this way: communal or clan-organized dwelling complexes, fortified earthen or stone houses built to a repeated regional form, and traditional roof and structural forms particular to one culture's own vernacular architecture, distinguishing them from the individually authored, architecturally significant houses gathered in the group of that name.
