Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical Architecture

The recovery and reworking of classical vocabulary in Western Europe from the fifteenth through the early nineteenth century: the Renaissance's direct revival of Roman proportion and ornament, the Baroque's theatrical elaboration of the same vocabulary, and neoclassicism's later return to a stricter, more austere classicism. Belongs here: any style in this continuous three-century sequence of classically grounded Western architecture. Does not belong here: ancient classical architecture itself, grouped under Ancient and Classical Architecture, or the later nineteenth-century revival styles that follow neoclassicism, grouped separately below.
