Nuragic Architecture

Ancient and Classical Architecture

Nuragic architecture is defined by the nuraghe, the main type of megalithic edifice built on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia during the Nuragic Age, roughly 1900 to 730 BC, by the Bronze Age culture that takes its name from this same structure. A nuraghe is a tower-fortress built from large stones, and more than 7,000 of them survive across Sardinia, with archaeologists believing the original total exceeded 10,000. The nuraghe has become the enduring symbol of Sardinia and of the distinctive Nuragic civilization that built it.
