The Salesforce Transit Center opened in San Francisco in 2018, designed by the architecture firm Pelli Clarke Pelli to replace the city's former Transbay Terminal on the same downtown site, and renamed shortly before opening for its corporate naming-rights sponsor. Its most distinctive feature is a rooftop park of roughly 5.4 acres, built atop the multi-level bus concourse below and planted with species drawn from around the world, intended to function as elevated public green space in a dense downtown district with little ground-level park land. The center's undulating white perforated aluminum facade was designed to evoke both movement and natural light, admitting daylight into the concourses below through a system of skylights integrated into the rooftop park above. The center closed for several months in 2018, shortly after opening, when steel support beams were found to have cracked, requiring a lengthy structural repair before it reopened in 2019. It connects by a dedicated pedestrian skybridge to the neighboring Salesforce Tower.
