English astronomer turned architect, 1632 to 1723, who after the Great Fire of 1666 rebuilt the churches of the City of London, more than fifty of them, and crowned the city with the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral, completed in his own lifetime. His epitaph in the cathedral reads, in Latin, if you seek his monument, look around you.
