EPDM roofing membrane is a synthetic rubber roofing material, its name derived from ethylene propylene diene monomer, manufactured as large rolled sheets and used chiefly on low-slope and flat commercial roofs, where it is adhered, mechanically fastened or ballasted over insulation to form a continuous waterproof membrane. Commercialized from the 1960s onward, its combination of flexibility across a wide temperature range, resistance to ultraviolet degradation and ozone, and a service life often exceeding twenty years has made it one of the most widely specified single-ply roofing materials for flat-roofed commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.
