Polycarbonate panel is a rigid, lightweight, highly impact-resistant thermoplastic sheet, often produced with a hollow multi-wall structure for added insulation and strength, used architecturally as a translucent alternative to glass for roofing, skylights, greenhouse glazing and facade cladding. Commercialized from the 1950s and 1960s onward, it offers considerably greater impact resistance than glass at a fraction of the weight, along with good thermal insulation in its multi-wall form, and its ease of cutting, forming and installation has made it a common choice for industrial, agricultural and budget-conscious architectural glazing where the optical clarity of glass is not required.
