48 Hudson Avenue

48 Hudson Avenue is the oldest standing building in Albany, New York. It was long believed to have been built in 1759 by Johannes Radliff, but research by Albany historian John Wolcott showed that the property had instead been occupied by Johannes van Ostrande between 1728 and 1734, and that a mortgage Radliff held on the house referred to it as formerly van Ostrande's. Dendrochronology performed by the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University on a wood core sample from the building confirmed that it dates to 1728. The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since January 2008, having previously been a contributing property to the Downtown Albany Historic District.
