Ait Benhaddou is a historic ighrem, or fortified village, along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh in Morocco. Built of earthen clay in the vernacular style of the region, it is considered one of the finest examples of Moroccan earthen architecture. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
