Ampthill Plantation stood in Chesterfield County in colonial Virginia, on the south bank of the James River about four miles south of the head of navigation at present day Richmond. It was built around 1730 by Henry Cary Jr. just upstream of Falling Creek, and was later owned by Colonel Archibald Cary, who ran a flour mill complex and iron forge nearby at Warwick. Mary Randolph, later known for her cookbook The Virginia House-Wife, was born there in 1762.
