Atlantis, The Palm

Atlantis, The Palm is a resort hotel on the trunk of the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, built as a joint venture between Kerzner International Holdings and Istithmar World and opened on September 24, 2008. Designed with Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo as architect of record and Northpoint of South Africa handling the conceptual design, the resort rises 93 metres over 22 floors across twin East and West towers, its nautical theming and Arabian design elements drawing on the myth of Atlantis. The property holds 1,544 rooms, including the Poseidon and Neptune suites with floor to ceiling windows facing an artificial lagoon, alongside 35 restaurants such as the underwater restaurant Ossiano, the Aquaventure water park and the Lost Chambers Aquarium, home to more than 65,000 marine animals. Its opening was marked by a fireworks display of about 100,000 shells, roughly seven times the number used at the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.
