Ayavalla Plantation

Ayavalla Plantation was a quail hunting plantation in northwest Leon County, Florida, established by John Henry Howard Phipps, son of John Shaffer Phipps of the Phipps family. Its name comes from an Indian word that Ellen Call Long, daughter of Florida governor Richard Keith Call and a former resident of the neighboring Orchard Pond Plantation, used for Lake Jackson. The plantation hosted events together with the adjoining Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park, including part of the Red Hills Horse Trials, and after John Shaffer Phipps died in 1958 the land was divided between grandsons Colin Phipps, who received 1,200 acres, and John E. Phipps, who received 2,100 acres.
