Barton Hall (Alabama)

Barton Hall, also known as the Cunningham Plantation, is an antebellum plantation house west of Cherokee, Alabama, built in 1840. The two and a half story wood frame house, with a clapboarded exterior, is considered a stylistically rare Alabama example of Greek Revival architecture with elements of the late Federal period, and its interior includes a stairway leading to a rooftop observatory. The roughly four acre property remains privately owned and occupied and is not open to the public; a descendant of the builder repurchased the house in 1967. Barton Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973 for its architectural significance.
