The Belem Palace, officially the National Palace of Belem, is the official residence of the president of Portugal. It stands in the Belem district of Lisbon, its main facade facing the Afonso de Albuquerque Square and the Tagus River beyond. Formerly a residence of the Portuguese royal family, the palace complex today comprises a number of buildings, wings, courtyards and gardens built at different times from the eighteenth to the twenty first centuries.
