Berkeley Plantation

Berkeley Plantation, one of the first plantations established in America, comprises about 1,000 acres on the James River in Charles City County, Virginia, and was originally known as Berkeley Hundred after the Berkeley Company of England. It became the home of the Harrison family of Virginia in 1726, after Benjamin Harrison IV built one of the first three-story brick mansions in the colony there, and it is the ancestral home of two American presidents, William Henry Harrison, born on the property in 1773, and his grandson Benjamin Harrison. It now operates as a museum open to the public.
