Blue House (Hong Kong)

The Blue House is a four story tong lau tenement building at 72 to 74A Stone Nullah Lane in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, named for the blue paint on its outer walls. It stands on the site of the former Wah To Hospital, established in the 1870s and demolished in 1920, and was rebuilt as tenement blocks by 1922, later housing a martial arts school and a traditional medicine clinic. The Hong Kong government acquired the building in the 1970s and it was painted blue in 1990; it is now a Grade I historic building that underwent a major renovation in 2015 and 2016. It functions today as a heritage and community site, including the Hong Kong House of Stories and a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, and its revitalization won an architectural heritage award in 2017 and 2018.
