Brooklyn Bridge

The Brooklyn Bridge is a cable stayed suspension bridge crossing the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York City. Designed by John A. Roebling and completed under the supervision of his son Washington Roebling and daughter in law Emily Warren Roebling after the elder Roebling died before construction began, it opened on May 24, 1883, as the first fixed crossing of the East River and, at the time, the longest suspension bridge in the world. Its two stone towers, built in a Gothic Revival style with pointed arches, together with its web of diagonal and vertical cables, have made it one of the most recognized bridges in the United States.
