Brooks Mansion

Brooks Mansion is a Greek Revival plantation house at 901 Newton Street NE in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, D.C., built between 1836 and 1840 by Colonel Jehiel Brooks, a War of 1812 veteran, as the house of his 246 acre estate Bellair. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority bought the house in 1970 and the District of Columbia government acquired it in 1979; it now houses the Public Access Corporation for the District of Columbia. The 1.7 acre property was named to the D.C. Inventory of Historic Sites on April 29, 1975, and to the National Register of Historic Places on July 17, 1975, and the D.C. Preservation League listed it as an endangered historic place in 1999.
