Building

A building is an enclosed structure with a roof and walls, and usually windows, meant to stand permanently in one place, from a house to a factory. Buildings exist to give people shelter from weather, security, privacy and a place to live, work and store belongings, and their form and materials have varied throughout history with climate, available materials, land cost and taste. Beyond their practical role, buildings have long served as a canvas for architectural and artistic expression, and contemporary building design increasingly incorporates sustainable and green building practices.
