The Hungarian Parliament Building, also known as the Parliament of Budapest, is the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary, a notable landmark of the country and a popular tourist destination, situated on Kossuth Square on the Pest side of the city along the eastern bank of the Danube. Designed by the Hungarian architect Imre Steindl in neo-Gothic style, it opened in 1902 and has remained the largest building in Hungary ever since. Its architectural style was influenced by the Gothic Vienna City Hall, while renaissance elements such as its cupola drew on the Maria vom Siege church in Vienna.

Why is the Hungarian Parliament Building exactly 96 meters tall?
Its 96 meter height alludes to 896, the year of the Hungarian conquest, and to the nation's 1896 millennium celebration.
The building's height of 96 meters was not chosen arbitrarily. It is an allusion to the purported nation's millennium in 1896, and at the same time to the establishment of the Principality of Hungary in 896 following the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin. The dome height was set to commemorate both dates at once.
